JONATHAN BYRD
8:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Tickets are $20 per person - For Reservations: willow@froghollowtreehouse.com
Jonathan Byrd splashed onto the folk scene in a big way. After winning the North Carolina Songwriter’s Co-op ‘Song of the Year’ in 2000, Jonathan released a debut album with a maturity usually only heard of in the majors. Having heard a cut from “Wildflowers,” folk legend Tom Paxton contacted Byrd immediately, saying, “What a treat to hear someone so deeply rooted in tradition, yet growing in his own beautiful way.”
Born to a southern family, Jonathan grew up with aunts who sang harmonies together and uncles who played blues and bluegrass guitar. Byrd learned to sing in the church where his father preached, and began performing solos when he was 8 years old, about the same time his mother began teaching him piano. By his high school years in Hillsborough, NC, Jonathan had discovered the guitar and joined Orange High School’s big band jazz program. Eager to learn, he studied theory and began penning his own compositions.
After graduation, Jonathan spent four years in the Navy with three tours in the Mediterranean on an amphibious assault ship. His guitar accompanied him wherever he went and, upon his return to civilian life, he explored Ireland and the Appalachian mountains of the southern states in a search for his musical roots. An award winning songwriter and accomplished guitarist, Jonathan Byrd has appeared on television shows, live radio, and nearly 200 live dates per year since beginning a full-time career in January 2000. Jonathan is a magical live performer. ‘Sing Out!’ magazine says Byrd is, “a songwriter of exceptional talent… with the stark storytelling of the finest traditional balladeers.”
As a recording artist, Byrd slides easily from bluegrass into country, and then country blues on his well-rounded debut, ‘Wildflowers.’ Gorgeous acoustic instrumentation and Byrd’s unique voice evoke the ghosts of traditional southern music, like a young man exploring a haunted old house. One critic in Austin called Jonathan “the Alison Krauss of the male gender,” for his soaring neo-traditional sounds. Jonathan’s second release, “The Waitress,” is due out in the fall of 2002 and explores the colorful, sometimes dark world of this contemporary southern songwriter.
If you enjoy Jonathan’s music, you owe it to yourself to see him live.

We are so delighted to be hosting Angela at The Treehouse!
A Bit About Angela Easterling
Angela was raised in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Much of her childhood was spent on the farm that has been in her family since 1791, seven generations. Ironically, it wasn’t until she moved to Los Angeles, that the homespun musical calling in her soul became a siren’s song. A performer all her life, Angela had begun playing guitar and writing songs while studying at Emerson College in Boston. Angela embraced her heritage in a big way as a writer and an artist on her debut album, “Earning Her Wings”, chosen as “Americana Pick of the Year” by Smart Choice Music. She returned to tour the East Coast, having appeared on the bill with such artists as Lucinda Williams, Deana Carter, Dave Alvin, Victoria Williams and Michelle Shocked out west. She opened for the legendary Ray Price (at the Birchmere), Suzy Bogguss and others. Angela’s music was featured in commercials (Southwestern Bell) and several of her songs were used in the series “Horsepower” on Animal Planet.
Angela released her second album, “BlackTop Road”, produced by Will Kimbrough in July ’09.The album was in the top 5 for adds to the Americana radio charts for several weeks and debuted on the Americana top 40 chart in September, remaining there for 7 weeks. It has been highly praised in the press and was chosen as a top pick in both Oxford American and Country Weekly. The title song tells of her family’s struggle to hold onto their farmland in the face of widespread development and represents a bold new step in her singing and songwriting. Angela was selected for an official Americana Convention Showcase and also named a 2009 Kerrville Hill New Folk Finalist. The Boston Herald named her song “The Picture” “Best Political Country Song” in their 2009 Year’s best music picks and WNCW listeners chose “BlackTop Road” as one of the top 100 CD’s of 2009 as well as one of the top 20 by regional artists. Roger McGuinn, founder of the Byrds, called her “a bright shining star on the horizon!” and went on to say, “Her gift is so special. Her CD BlackTop Road brought me back to the time the Byrds recorded “Sweetheart of the Rodeo” – tradition meets youthful exuberance.” For more info on Angela, including bio, tour dates, and audio downloads, please visit - www.angelaeasterling.com

NANYANA
7:00 p.m. Picnic, 8:00 p.m. Show
$15.00 Donation - For Reservations: willow@froghollowtreehouse.com
Pronounced NAHN-yah-nah, she was born an Army brat in Landsthul, Germany to a jolly Tennessee country mountain boy and strong, beautiful Thai mother. Settling in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia, her first band was a girl group trio, where eleven year old Nanyana first began composing songs. By the age of fifteen she taught herself to play guitar. At a young age, Nanyana displayed diverse musical interests. She locked herself in her room and jammed out to multiple varieties of rock and metal, dreaming of the chance duet with Chris Cornell, her biggest male influence. She also favored Jay Kay from Jamiroquai, who freed her funkier side. She vibed to rock icons like Pantera, Stone Temple Pilots, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, as well as having Jazz & R & B influences from Sade, Sarah Vaughn and Erykah Badu. In 2001, some friends and fellow music aficionados, asked her to audition for a project they were working on and shortly after formed a band named after her. Her energetic, captivating stage presence soon developed and they produced one self-titled album before parting in 2004. Realizing her individual artistic character had significantly developed during that time, Nanyana focused on her songwriting skills and began performing as a solo artist in the Southeast with original material, composed from the heart. Life’s ever-changing paths and emotions inspire her compositions and with that new material came a broader, more dedicated fan base. Presently she is working diligently on a long anticipated solo album, to be released this spring. Exotic as a Thai princess and as spirited as a gypsy, Nanyana’s voice is rich and soothing, yet powerful and energetic, the perfect compliment to her diverse catalog of music. Don’t miss the chance to see one of Atlanta’s best, Nanyana. Also please join Nanyana’s official FACEBOOK FAN PAGE!

Adam Levy and Amber Ruberth
8:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
$20.00 Donation - For Reservations: willow@froghollowtreehouse.com
We are SO excited to have the opportunity to host this special event….Come spend a cozy December evening, fireside and up close and personal at the Treehouse with Amber Rubarth and Adam Levy!! And let their music take you away….
Amber- “okay so one day right before graduating high school i was riding my bike through tahoe and i saw a little flyer blowing from a nail on a tree that said “wood sculpture apprenticeship” and i thought “wow, i would much rather do that than college!” (the brilliance of a 17 year old) and so i dropped the idea of college and moved to carson city, nevada to learn to use a chainsaw and make things like leopards and sailors and benches and pretty signs then one late night in the studio i was talking with the head sculptor there and he was telling me one of the most significant things he ever learned in life was the importance of following your number one passion and not your second or third, because you will only be truly great if you’re doing what you really love most. so i put down my chainsaw, quit, and told him i was going to learn to play guitar and be a musician.”
NPR loves “her honesty and humor.” The Boston Globe says “You will leave with a crush on her.” She won 1st Place in the International Songwriting Contest (judged by Tom Waits). Over 1.4 Million MySpace listens. Toured Europe 4 times. Unsigned….Welcome to the musical world of Amber Rubarth!
Amber is touring with Adam Levy….Adam Levy is best known for his tenure as the featured guitarist in Norah Jones’ Handsome Band. He played on her breakout 2002 disk Come Away with Me, her ‘04 follow-up Feels Like Home, and her latest CD Not Too Late. In his downtime between steady gigs with Jones, Levy has been onstage and/or in the studio with Rosanne Cash, Amos Lee, M. Ward, and up-and-coming Aussie artist Eran James.
In addition to Levy’s skills as a player, he is a gifted songwriter. He penned “In the Morning” for Jones’ Feels Like Home, and other artists have recorded his songs as well. There’s no doubt, though, that the best way to hear Levy’s folk/pop/blues gems is straight from the source.
“Adam Levy has a reputation for tailoring imaginative and elegant guitar solos to fit almost any tune, beginning with Tracy Chapman’s “Give Me One Reason” and more recently on Norah Jones’ three CDs. When not busy backing Jones, the former Bay Area jazz musician has been writing tunes of his own, mostly in a bluesy folk vein, and he sings 11 of them on Washing Day. Lingering fragrances, coin laundries and pay phones inform his highly poetic, deeply emotional and at times disturbing songs about a lost lover. He avoids the wind because it reminds him of her touch, threatening to stir up a storm inside him. Finally, in a cow-punk ode titled “I Shot Her Down,” he commits murder. Pain oozes from Levy’s craggy tenor tones, which he answers with blistering shards of guitar sound.”
